Experiment with Gouache and more practice in oil

I have been doing a lot of small studies, mostly portraits to improve my painting.  The journey is long but that is what makes it beautiful!

However, I have been meaning to try Gouache for a long time and here is a sample painting I did today.  This is quite a wonderful medium to handle (I copied the painting from another oil painting).  I enjoyed it quite a bit, as I did not have to deal with turpentine and found it easy to manage and manipulate.  I loved how I was able to go from transparent applications, like watercolor, to opaque and the ability to layer colors.  I feel this will be a good medium to use for Plein Air painting.  I am Looking forward to it.

I used a limited palette of Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre and Ultramarine Blue.

A Sea-View

Below is a glimpse of my oil practice.  My practice these days consists of some original, some copy… But all fun…

(Please do not copy to profit off of the work of other artists, It is immoral and illegal).
